ISANS would like to thank RBC for its generous contribution to the upcoming SupperNova through a monetary commitment as well as volunteers for the event. Elena Lalabekova of RBC today presented a cheque to ISANS Director of Operations, Gerry Mills.
SupperNova is an international, multicultural potluck where community members (individuals and families) gather to meet and welcome newcomer individuals and families, and celebrate the diversity which newcomers bring to the community. The event has been held at least three times a year since 2001. Volunteers greet people, provide name tags, and assign them to tables so that everyone has a place and meets new people. Everyone brings food to share, which is labelled and arranged by volunteers in buffet style. Representatives from community groups organize musical entertainment and children’s and activities.
SupperNova reduces isolation, achieves stress relief, and helps build new friendships. It provides opportunities for Canadians and newcomers to socialize in an informal international setting and learn each other’s cultures through food and music. Many people come back to the event year after year, bringing friends and family members.
SupperNova will be held Saturday October 18, starting at 6:00pm at Saint Benedict Parish Church in Clayton Park. Everyone is welcome!
