Online Wellness Support Group: Expressive Art Therapy Workshop

February 18 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

This workshop, led by art therapist Amy Mackenzie, will introduce you to art therapy and expressive art-making. You will learn about using tools such as lines, shapes, colours, spaces, and symbols to convey thoughts and feelings in visual form, finding new ways to externalize and communicate your inner experience. We will also discuss how to connect different types of art materials and practices to different mental health goals, such as helpful ways to manage anxiety or develop new self-insights.

You will be guided through a series of exercises, including some warm-ups and a final expressive drawing, and you will be encouraged to use some of the tools discussed in the workshop. You will also have the option to share and discuss your artwork with other participants, but this is entirely optional.

Amy Mackenzie is a professional art therapist and Registered Counselling Therapist. She graduated from Concordia University with a Master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapies in 2011. She has worked in private practice and at a community counselling agency as both an art therapist and mental health counsellor. She has also developed and facilitated several art therapy groups, workshops, and classes.

  • Please have on hand some blank paper and any available drawing materials such as pencil crayons, markers, pastels, or paints
  • This session is online only through the free meeting service Zoom
