Who is Transportation and Active Transit?
Transportation and Active Transit build and maintain quality provincial infrastructure for Nova Scotians. They maintain highway construction and maintenance, as well as bridges and government buildings. As of October 20, 2014, the department assumed responsibility for the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) from Service Nova Scotia. The RMV includes programs such as driver licensing, vehicle registration, and driving records and compliance.
Vehicle Transportation Inspection – Vehicle Compliance:
To ensure heavy commercial vehicles are complying with the Weights and Dimensions Regulations, Transportation and Active Transit operates five scale houses as well as several mobile units across the province. Transportation and Active Transit has five compliance stations: Amherst Incoming, Amherst Outgoing, Canso Causeway, Enfield, and Kelly Lake. They also have 10 mobile inspections territories in Digby, Yarmouth, Bridgewater, Windsor, Amherst, Truro, Halifax, Antigonish, Port Hawkesbury, and Sydney.
