Criminal law – Wednesday, June 10

Learn the basics about Canada’s criminal justice system, from tickets, arrest, and detention, to trials, sentencing, and ‘Charter’ rights. You will also learn about the roles of police, defense lawyers, Crown prosecutor, victims/witnesses, and judges.  Presenter: Jonathan Hughes, lawyer, Planetta Hughes LLP

Private Refugee Sponsorship – Wednesday, June 17

Learn the basics about the private refugee sponsorship program, what refugee resettlement is, who can be sponsored to Canada, who can be a sponsor, and the financial cost of sponsoring.  This session is offered in English, as well as Arabic through an interpreter.   Presenter: Evelyn Jones, Atlantic Trainer with the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP). 

Employment law during COVID-19 – Wednesday, June 24
Employers and employees are facing many challenges during the pandemic.  This session will give an overview of issues like workplace safety plans for returning to work, human rights accommodations, job loss or changes to work, and the right to refuse unsafe work.
