HIPPY Program

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Program

You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Program helps families prepare their young children for success in school. We support parents, primarily mothers, of children aged 3-5.

The HIPPY program offers you:

  • Structured lessons and practical information on parenting
  • An opportunity to gain confidence as a parent
  • Support to help your child succeed in school

HIPPY also helps newcomer parents. You will learn about:

  • Reducing cultural barriers
  • Other services in the community
  • Life and school in Canada
  • Settlement stress
  • Parenting methods in Canada
  • Becoming active in your community and child’s school

Home Visitors visit mothers at their homes to deliver the HIPPY program. They will:

  • Visit you weekly over 30-weeks
  • Deliver books and curriculum activities to you to do with your child
  • Expect you to spend 15-20 minutes a day working on curriculum with your child
  • Empower you to be the primary educator of your child at home
  • Encourage you to be involved in your child’s school and the community
  • Help you strengthen your relationship with your child
  • Help prepare your child for successful early school experiences
