Immigrant Youth Career Exploration Project

Are you an immigrant youth refugee currently attending high school? Would you like to learn more about post-secondary education options, career exploration and Canadian workplace culture? Would you like to find a summer job? If so, then the Immigrant Youth Career Exploration Project is for you.

The program is designed to help immigrant youth:

  • Explore their career options
  • Learn about post-secondary education pathways,
  • Understand essential skills,
  • Learn about Canadian workplace culture,
  • Master Job search techniques, resume writing, interview skills
  • Learn about financial management
  • Become certified in First Aid/WHMIS/Fire Safety
  • Gain Canadian work experience in an entry-level summer job

To be eligible to attend this program you must:

  • Be a refugee youth currently attending high school (grade 10, 11 or 12)
  • Commit to attending one evening class and weekly Saturday classes for the duration of the program starting Wednesday, March 20, 2019
  • Commit to participate in job shadowing

If accepted into the program, you will receive:

  • Receive a training allowance of $150 per month plus one-month bus pass
  • Certified safety training valued at $250
  • Potential opportunity for paid summer employment (July and August)
